Free the GirlsHelp Trafficking Survivors in Developing Countries start a small businessJoin us by investing in economic empowerment for women in pursuit of lasting freedom. Zonta Club of Yakima Valley, a member club of Zonta International, is partnering with Free the Girls to help provide holistic reintegration for sex trafficking survivors and expand sustainable employment opportunities. Free the Girls is devoted to coming alongside sex trafficking survivors with a path to true freedom. Our goal for true freedom is measured by economic freedom, restored health, social well-being, education, and opportunity for a different, hopeful future for these women and their families. CHANGE THE WORLD … by Donating a BraThat unworn bra stuffed in the back of your drawer may not be the best fit for you, but somewhere across the world it can provide a safe and sustainable income to a woman. When you donate new or gently used bras, we send them to sub-Sahara Africa and Central America. Upon receipt of our shipment, Free the Girls will provide training and economic opportunity for trafficking survivors to change their lives. When you donate bucks, you’re also helping these survivors become entrepreneurs selling these bras and change their lives.
Why Bras?Bras are a unique item that actually have the power to bring freedom and hope to survivors! In many parts of the world, bras tend to be an item that many women have sitting in drawers for a long time un-touched. By inviting “everyday abolitionists” to donate their gently used bras (or collect them from family and friends), we are able to provide a woman with her starting inventory for her business. In some developing nations, bras are a sought-after item in the marketplace and command top dollar. By selling bras, a survivor is able to become an entrepreneur in her own community, having a sense of safety and economic freedom that allows her to provide for herself and her children as well! Why is the Zonta Club collecting Bras?Since its inception in Yakima 70 years ago, Zonta Club of Yakima Valley has worked to improve the lives of women and girls in the Yakima Valley and across the world through various service projects. In years past we worked to raise awareness of domestic minor sex trafficking in the valley. This program focuses on sex trafficking survivors in the Third World who get help establishing a small business selling used bras that we get donated. Win/Win!
